Las Canoas - Day 3

First, I want to thank everyone for the prayers and support, it sincerely means alot to all of us.  Today we were able to participate in the food program at Las Canoas.  We currently have 126 children enrolled and today another 8 were enrolled.  It is always a joy to know that more children are going to be a part of the ministry and that we have a chance to enrich their lives both pysically and spiritually.  Just like at Valla Hondito, the children loved the crafts and we found that many of the children have incredible artisitc abilities.  We feel that it is important for us to let them explore their creative side and they had a great time doing so.  Jill had to be rescued by Ramon when she broke out the Dum-Dum lollipops.  You would have thought she was passing out gold the way the children were acting. Saying that they dont receive many treats would be a huge understatement.

After lunch, we held true to our tradition of going down to the river for a swim.  Many of the children came along as well and we all swam and played in the river for a couple of hours.  Spencer, our son, and many of the other boys broke out into a seaweed war.  The stuff was flying everywhere.  Luckily, Jill and I didnt get slimed to bad.

After a long and wonderful day at Las Canoas we headed back to San Juan.  We stopped by the clinic to speak with the doctor concerning Cristians lab results.  The good news: Cristian is basically healthy as far as the complete blood and urine analysis goes.  He did have a slightly elevated white blood count which is normal due to him having a cold and some parasites.  He also is sligtly anemic.  The doctor prescribed some Vitamins to help with the anemia.  The bad news:  this means that the majority of his issues are a direct result of him not getting the proper nutrition to maintain his immune system adequatly.  The GREATEST news:  GOD is in total control and Cristian has a great support group that is praying for him daily.  We are working to devise a plan to help with Cristian's daily nutrition to get him back to a safe and healthy condition.

Adios amigos, asta manana!
